Lying to God

Acts 5:1-4 – But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession. And he kept back part of the proceeds, his wife also being aware of it, and brought a certain part and laid it at the apostles’ feet. But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself? While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.”

I enjoy listening to Billy Graham’s sermons. He often speaks about character and integrity. You know, the person we truly are when no one else is around, no one else can see us or no one else can hear us. It is important to remember that we cannot be “part-time Christians”. We cannot act the part of a believer when it is convenient and then act differently when things are tough. Ananias and Sapphira’s sin was lying to God — they pretended to be one person, yet, acted differently when they thought nobody else was looking. Remember, to walk with integrity and character that the Lord would be proud of, we must be the same person on Monday that we say we are on Sunday.
