It’s Up To Us

1 Timothy 3:3-8 – Honor widows who are really widows. But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show piety at home and to repay their parents; for this is good and acceptable before God. Now she who is really a widow, and left alone, trusts in God and continues in supplications and prayers night and day. But she who lives in pleasure is dead while she lives. And these things command, that they may be blameless. But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

There comes a time in the lives of our families when roles become reversed. Those that once took care of us when we were young, now look to us to take care of them as they get older. This is not an obligation we owe, but a responsibility we have. We are called to love those that are older than us, we are commanded to care for those that raised us. No, it might not always be easy, but if we love as Christ loved, care as Christ cared and nurture as Christ nurtured, we will be blessed beyond imagination. It is up to us to take care of those that once took care of us.
