Different Standards

Genesis 43:7 – But they said, “The man asked us pointedly about ourselves and our family, saying, ‘Is your father still alive? Have you another brother?’ And we told him according to these words. Could we possibly have known that he would say, ‘Bring your brother down’?”

I find it interesting that more and more we see society living by different standards — those we apply to ourselves and those we apply to others (especially those we do not agree with). We are quick to judge, criticize and condemn others for their actions, but when our actions are discovered we are extremely quiet and preach forgiveness. In today’s passage, Joseph’s brothers “hid” behind the truth and told their father, “we told him according to these words”. They chose to speak the truth, although it was a series of their lies that landed Joseph (their brother) in Egypt. We should not judge others any differently than we would judge ourselves. We speak the truth, show grace/mercy and pray for forgiveness for all.

I pray for blessings today for you on your Journey!
